Joel Lwaga was born in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, into a Christian family. His parents were pastors, while his father was also a singer in church choirs. This religious environment contributed greatly to building Joel a strong foundation of faith and inspiring him to love Gospel music from an early age.

As a child, he began singing in church and participating in various choirs, which helped him develop his musical talent. Despite his love for music, Joel continued to value education, where he reached the university level studying Economics.

The Beginning of the Musical Journey

Joel Lwaga’s musical journey officially began through choirs and praise and worship groups. He later left church choirs and joined Gospel groups that brought together singers from different churches, including Next Level Worship Team and Glorious Worship Team. All the while, he continued his studies, building a future dream in music ministry.

In 2008, Joel began to invest more energy in music, learning, discovering himself and fighting to find his place in the gospel industry. However, the journey was not easy, as it took him until about 2016 when he began to be officially recognized as an individual artist.

Starting to Record and Gain Fame

His first recorded song was “Unaweza”, but it did not receive the great reception he had hoped for. However, that did not discourage him.

The song that gave him great recognition and introduced him well to the public was “Sitabaki Kama Niliwiyo”. Joel has stated that he wrote the song during a difficult period in his life filled with doubts, despair and comparing himself to others. The song was a statement of faith and hope, and eventually touched the hearts of many people inside and outside Tanzania, spreading rapidly and giving him great fame.

What is most interesting is that the history of the song is also related to his personal journey, as he was once paralyzed from the waist down, a condition that made him go through great trials but ultimately gave him a powerful testimony that was turned into a song of comfort for many.

Joel Lwaga is the founder of Heaven Culture Entertainment (HCE), a music and gospel ministry company. Through the platform, he has been preaching, worshipping and ministering in churches, conferences and gospel concerts in and outside East Africa, as far away as Australia.

In November 2020, Joel married Peace Jopec, and in 2023 they were blessed with a son named Ethan. Joel often shares how marriage and parenthood have added depth and maturity to his spiritual and musical life.
